Swumanoid, Coast Guard Robot
Someday role of the lifeguard will be replaced by robots. A finding that was initially to find the best swimming techniques, instead become a prototype for the lifeguard robot.
It was announced the investigators from the Tokyo Institute of Technology recently.
It's name Swumanoid, this robot can swim with a speed of 0.64 meters per second. That means one-third the speed of human swimming speed record.
Swumanoid could do a breaststroke movement, freestyle and butterfly stroke.
Motomu Nakashima who led the research said that, "Since this robot can swim, then he can help peoples who are facing danger in the water. I believe this might happens in the future, "as reported by the Daily Mail.
However, the road of Swumanoid to become a lifeguard is still long. Constraints such as durability and waterproof remain unresolved.
